Jonathan Zabarauskas

I am a visual creative specialising in Absurdist Photography. Based in Melbourne, Australia, I have been part of the amazing culture and discourse that is so important to this city, which has allowed me to begin to explore almost insurmountable artistic notions.

Adopting photography as my main medium of choice from a young age has sent me down a path of constant conceptual analysis and discovery. Questioning the implications of the image in situ with the human condition. In my tertiary education, especially my honours degree, these questions began to focus on the absurdist notions that plague the photograph and photography as a whole. Seeing the image as a two way device, or lense, that shares information – not just about the subject in the frame but the events that lead to the image capture.

Alongside this I have also gained vast technical knowledge in the field of photography. From working as a professional photographic retail specialist, fine art printing and high intensity photography shoots.

The never ending battle of producing art that seeks to explore notions that only art can, while also, trying to attain an accompanying visual counterpart to the exploration is my lifelong calling.
